What is Chronic Disease

Background

This assignment will introduce your students to the project topic, chronic disease. From this assignment students will be able to explain what chronic diseases are and how they impact different countries. By using the World Health Organization web site as a resource, students will also gain experience in researching and interpreting data. By following the directions laid out in this assignment, students will get acquainted with our process which includes Fact Sheets, Classroom Interviews, Research and Writing.

Suggestion for Classroom Visitors

Invite a doctor or nurse to visit your classroom and talk about the types of chronic diseases and how they affect our bodies. Encourage students to ask questions that will help them write their research paper.

Research Task

Using the World Health Organization web site as a resource, students will study the impact of chronic disease on any two countries. In their paper students should include:

1. A definition and list of chronic diseases
2. A brief description of the economic situation of the two countries (is this a developed country, a poor country, etc)
3. A discussion of how chronic diseases impact the country's health care costs.
4. A discussion of how chronic diseases impact these two countries differently.
