Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) Education

ATOD Expert Level Trainers (Cadre Members)

Center for Health and Learning currently works with a small group of expert consultants, known as the ATOD Cadre, to provide high quality ATOD education training.  This group meets the Expert level trainer criteria, have developed tried and true strategies and materials, and consistently get high evaluation ratings on the training they deliver. Please contact the Center for Health and Learning for assistance setting up staff or parent education sessions.

Margo Austin
Bachelor of Science in Education, Master’s in Education, LADC
10 years as a cadre member and trainer
Currently a Peer prevention Educator for Connecting Youth in Chittenden South Supervisory Union
Family includes partner, Kyle; daughter, Molly; son, Ben

Debby Haskins
MS,  Counseling   UVM
LADC (Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor)
NCC (Nationally Certified Counselor)
CCS (Certified Clinical Supervisor)
12-15 years as a cadre member and trainer
Specialty areas for ATOD include school policy, pharmacology, chemical dependency and the family
Currently Executive Director of the Association of Student Assistance Professionals of VT (ASAP)
Married 37 years, I live in No. Calais on a lake.  I enjoy kayaking, playing, and swimming with my two grandsons, Jackson and Walker. My interests are in my Native American ancestry.

Marta Koonz

Currently self-employed consultant, specialty areas substance abuse prevention, prevention curricula, training design, and team-building

Dayna Scott
Education: BA, English and Political Science from the University of Massachusetts.
Years of experience as a cadre member and trainer: 12 years as a trainer and 5 years with the Act 51 Cadre.
Specialty areas for ATOD Education, if applicable: Addiction and the Family; Fostering Resiliency & Developmental Assets; Prevention Curricula; and Youth Engagement, a.k.a., Ways to Make Prevention FUN!
Current title and employer: Coordinator for CY-Connecting Youth
Outside interests (family, hobbies, etc.): Theater improvisation (Director of the See Why Improv Troupe); West African dancing & drumming (Member of Jeh Kulu Dance & Drum Theater); hiking; skiing; swimming; cooking; and riding roller coasters.

Jan Shamberger
Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology
Vermont State licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor
Sixteen years of experience in the drug and alcohol field. The past 13 years have been spent as a Student Assistant Counselor for the Burlington School District providing direct service at the high school level and coordinating the program for the district.
