utilizing research-based models with proven track records.
- Designing
services to ensure equitable and quality education to diverse
audiences.
- Building local capacity by creating partnerships
as well as providing technical assistance and follow-up support
to schools and communities.
- Working with institutes of higher
education and professional associations to offer pre-service
and in-service coursework and educational opportunities.
Our History
The Center for Health and Learning was founded as the Green Mountain Training
Center for Healthy Schools and Communities (GMTC) in 1996. At that
time, the Vermont Department of Education was seeking a vehicle that could provide
assistance on a broad range of school and public health issues. With funding from the Centers for Disease Control, the GMTC emerged as an active participant in the CDC's campaign to establish
regional training centers capable of delivering high quality educational events and building local capacity for school and community
health promotion.
In 2004 the organization's name changed from GMTC to the Center for Health and Learning. Since
2002 CHL has served more than 12,000 professionals and community
members. In our mission to promote healthy and safe schools
and communities, we have created partnerships with, and provided services to, more than 100 cooperating
agencies and school systems. For more information, link here or above to Past Activities.
